On February 21, 2020, Alfonso Palazón (Universidad Rey Juan Carlos) and Manuela Penafria (UBI) brought together researchers and filmmakers at UBI in an event titled “The Creative Process.” The aim was—and continues to be—to promote debate and foster closer connections between artistic creation and academic research.

Understanding what lies behind a film work, its creative process, as well as the possibilities for dialogue between artistic creation and academic research, are the focus of these meetings, which take place alternately at each of the participating universities. In 2023, the University of Algarve joined the organization of this event.

In 2026, the 7th Meeting takes place at the University of Algarve, maintaining the format of invited guests and a roundtable with all participants, encouraging a deeper understanding of cinema and promoting research in the arts.

What is a creative process and what does it involve?
