The iA*lab CineMAtiC is a dynamic and multifaceted group dedicated to interdisciplinary research into cinema and media arts, including multiple aesthetics, formats and materialities. The iA*lab CineMAtiC stands out for producing studies and artistic creation that promote cultural and linguistic diversity, in a collaborative environment where researchers, filmmakers, visual artists and the community explore new methodological, narrative and aesthetic approaches. It also encourages experimentation with new technologies and forms of expression that expand the horizons of cinematographic language.

In this diversity, the iA*lab CineMAtiC promotes the involvement of the non-academic community in scientific and artistic processes and is dedicated to the study of the relationships between cinema and other arts, the image-sound relationship in cinema, the possibility of film theory to include the thought and poetics of the filmmakers, scriptwriting, critical discourse, curation and cinephilia movements. Cinemas in Portuguese and non-fiction assume a special importance in research and experimental activities are manifested by the creation of intermediary works, expanded cinema, audiovisual essays, acousmatic sound, interactive installations, in a dialogue between persons inside and outside of the Academy. The creative process, in its shared dimension, is a privileged approach of the iA*lab CineMAtiC.
